Application of Post Production Audio and Visual

This is the timeline sequence finished before I added In credits which I think would be more interesting for the audience.
This is when I added credits. I did this by repeating the audio underneath the credits from the beginning of the doumentary (The river is wide cover by Annushka Sims and Tom Sims) I then used the video settings to shrink each piece of footage and move it to the left of the screen. I also added text to each clip stating their name and their occupation within the river cam. To transfer each clip to another i dropped the opacity to 0% at the end of each clip using key frames to pin point where I wanted them to be seen or not. I also brought up the opacity at the beginning of each clip to 100% so that the clips eventually fade in and out along with the text. Here is an example...

For the audio I added this to the ending credits ( The river is wide, cover  by Annushka Sims and Tom Sims) I faded this in and out by using key frames but this time instead of using opacity which I would have used for a video I used the pen tool which is shown in the bar to the left of the timeline.
I then clicked on where i wanted the music to fade in. Rather than choosing a number this time (100%/ 0%) I dragged the key frame to where I wanted the music to fade in and out. The highlighted red is where the music is located.

Final script and evaluation

Throughout the process of writing a final script i wrote a draft and shooting script to eventually refine them to a final script which is easy to follow when shooting and interviewing.

I made many changes to eventually perfecting my script. One of the most obvious changes I made was to the part in the script which was 'interviewer' and the interviewee. Instead of having speech to the left hand side of the page, I placed them in the middle. This is always the case in scripts so you can see the distinct change between the shots and description in comparison to the speech within a script.

From my second script (shooting) I included the shots which I had already storyboarded. I did this so that the script was clear and easy to follow for when I needed to use it. I placed the shots along the 'EXT.' (Could also be INT. but all of the shots were outside) and the location in the scene. I put this at the top of each scene to the left hand sign, introducing this with 'SCENE' in capitals followed by a hashtag (#) and the number of the scene.

On the front page I also needed to add capitals for the title ' Life On The River Cam' followed by 'Written by Annushka Sims' and a short summery of the content of the documentary shortened into one sentence. I also had to write another summery beneath the sentence to explain in more detail what the documentary was about. This will help me in the future to understand the point I am trying to achieve towards the audience.

Rough Cut and Feed back

Feedback:

In the opening scene the sound quality of the interview is good but the visuals need touching up in terms of the colour correction due to the dull colours which make the shot look foggy and boring to the audience. The shot of the punter sleeping in a boat opens the documentary well and gives the audience a sense of what they should expect.

The music fits well with the first few shots but not sure if it fits with the rest of the short film. This particular shot would work exceptionally for the opening shot as apposed to the interview. The shots that follow behind of the river are picturesque and the way that the opacity is dropped and faded into one another works really well but may need to be perfected to fit the music used.

The audio of the interviews underneath the music, I think ruins the tranquil river which is meant to be flowing- would be best if audio is taken out and shows more abstract criteria instead of the current sequence.

When you see the 'no mooring' sign in the river it is a very good shot when it focuses; it wobbles dramatically, to make this shot more effective you could stabilise it using after effects or premier. When the touts throw the tout boards in the air, the audio ruins the shot and needs to be taken out. Overall the rough cut is enjoyable but needs to be touched up in order to excite the audience and have an impact on the viewer.
